Brian Braudis’ 1-Minute Morning Memo: January 29, 2018 – Education

EducationI attended an enriching, inspiring and forward-looking college graduation this weekend. There were 850 graduates from 47 different countries. My wife earned her Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA). Education is a game changer!

The commencement language was classic—this is an ending and new beginning and the best days are ahead, friends forever, fond memories and embarking on new challenges. The energy in the room was palpable.

As the address continued, I couldn’t help but reflect on the current climate in our country. How highly educated leaders too often become blinded by winning and so complacent to dysfunction that it spirals out of control, creating undo suffering.

Mistakenly we think the formal degree is it, we’re done we have arrived. The energy of the commencement and the language of continual advancement are too quickly forgotten.

I believe formal education is the key to breaking down barriers and evolving humanity.

Formal education is only the beginning however. It opens the door to new thinking, expanding worldviews and never-ending examination of our assumptions. BUT we must never stop becoming educated while always remembering the energy and language of the commencement. Never let up increasingly holding leaders and ourselves accountable to the highest standard and the highest bar.

Formal education creates the future and self-education sustains it.
