Relevancy: The recent 60 Minutes Interview with Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon was an inspiring reminder of what we must do to create relevancy and keep it.
Amazon doesn’t fear change they embody it. They are constantly improving and moving toward a target while creating and moving toward still more targets.
- Bezos said, “The secret is we are on our 7th generation of fulfillment centers. And we have gotten better every time.”
Amazon creates distinction and competitive advantage by forgoing the pursuit of immediate profit and embracing the long term.
- “The long view is rare enough that it means you’re not competing against very many companies. Most companies want to see a return in one, two, three years. I’m willing for it to be five, six, seven years. So just that change in timeline can be a very big competitive advantage.”
Amazon keeps critics and detractors in perspective.
- “You gotta earn your keep in this world. When you invent something new, if customers come to the party, it’s disruptive to the old way. The Internet is disrupting every media industry. People can complain about that but complaining is not a strategy. Amazon is not happening to book selling, the future is happening to book selling.”
I was inspired to write an entire post based on the interview. You can read it here.
Here’s to you as you create relevancy.
