Power of Words
Today’s Coaching: Power of Words. Reflect on the impact of words. When your boss says, “I know you can do it” or when a friend tells you how you make them feel. How you use words.
President Obama closed his speech at the Hyatt in Atlanta on March 10 and my mentor group gathered. It was a convention on new coaching and consulting approaches and best practices. I’ll write about it next week because in a flurry of a last-minute run to Starbucks with friends, an early flight and an even earlier shuttle, I left my laptop locked in the safe of room 337.
When I called the hotel the words from security were, “We will first have to make sure it’s there and it’s yours.” Even though I provided the safe combination I created, security was disbelieving. When I called back and spoke to the general manager his words were different. He expressed regret and said he would FedEx it right away.
You can imagine how in each case the words had impact.
Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill.—Buddha
