Brian Braudis’ 1-Minute Morning Memo: March 30, 2015-Today’s focus: Power

The Mighty

Today’s coaching: For eons power has been considered the currency of greatest value. Why do people spend millions on an election campaign for a position that pays in the hundreds of thousands? Sometimes it is the weakest people who seek to be Mighty through external power…..think Nixon!

Our society believes this is wealth. The richest have access; choices and purchase power but are they really powerful? Are they personally secure, empowered by their own Nature, their essence?

On the other hand, power is not well understood. People who complain about a commanding supervisor, a difficult spouse or partner allow themselves to be powerless and experience unhappiness as a result. We sometimes give others the ability to make us feel inferior, less powerful. Fear is the fuel here of sorts and it often holds us back form experiencing our own innate power, the power that helps us climb to new heights, personal empowerment.

The core of one’s power is an inward pursuit and when we embrace that quest we orient towards personal empowerment—positive feelings, self-esteem, and confidence. Fear has no place here. Just as Dorothy learned after her trek to Oz, power is not in some magical place. It’s in your back yard.

This is what Mastery is all about.

“He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still.” Lao Tzu
