Brian Braudis’ 1-Minute Morning Memo: March 9, 2015-Today’s focus: Predictability

Predictability

Today’s coaching: Predictability. In the article What Predicts Success? It’s Not Your IQ, Daniel Goleman says don’t assume academic abilities predict how well we do in life.

He believes there are threshold abilities, what one needs to get the job completed. But these abilities are ubiquitous. Everyone who has a job has these skills.

To predict, “star success” there are distinguishing competencies we can observe that are largely due to high emotional intelligence. For example, confidence, striving for goals despite setbacks, remaining calm and approachable, collaboration skills and creating harmony are all distinguishing competencies that research has found linked to all sorts of success—sports, entrepreneurial, leadership, parenting, etc…

Grit

There is also a critical prediction of success research has revealed called Grit. This combination of skill and traits such as self-control, a single-minded focus, dedication and perseverance, allows students with relatively low college-board scores to achieve high G.P.A.’s.

You can take the Grit Scale test here. Your score will help you plan and predict your success.
