Brian Braudis’ 1-Minute Morning Memo: May 15, 2017 – Integrity

Everyone seems to have something to say about the Comey firing. Has integrity been lost? Are snarky tweets “Presidential” or of moral soundness? High Character?

A Defining Factor of Character

The definition of integrity is: “Moral soundness; honesty; freedom from corrupting influence or motive; — used especially with reference to the fulfillment of contracts, the discharge of duties in agencies, trusts, and uprightness & rectitude.” In addition, I believe integrity is about what is right rather than who is right.

Imagine if everyone acted the way integrity is defined here. What kind of world we would have?
Just imagine if we used our energy in this direction “Moral soundness; honesty; freedom from corrupting influence or motive” rather than spending it on complaining or worse, cynicism.

None of us are perfect but that is not the goal. The goal is to increase the amount of time we spend above the line, raising the bar and increasing the standard.
The really important thing is to put your energy toward improvement. Focusing on moral soundness as opposed to how you can “get” someone. Leaders project their values, beliefs, and perspective to their team. The more powerful the leader-meaning internal power–character, integrity, high morals, the stronger and more profuse the projection occurs.

Thoughts, values, attitudes and actions are contagious. Would you want someone to catch yours?

The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively. Bob Marley
