If you have been watching the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors, you may have picked up on the fact that what we are seeing on the court in 2018 is bigger, they go deeper than mere basketball.
LeBron James is leading us here. In USA Today he suggested that defeat even at 3-0 is not the primary issue. He is analyzing at a deeper level, for the longer term—looking closely toward where the ball is being thrown not where it is.
LeBron doesn’t just show up and watch the game unfold. He provokes it to unfold. And if the other team is stacked with layers of immense talent, he doesn’t get flustered or throw a fit. James pushes their limits while watching intently. Remaining fully present to what actually unfolds, he is making several “notes to self.”
Players today are using the talent they have developed to closely observe the game from the inside and crafting ideas for a new road map of deeper growth and evolution, setting up for a win next time.
Talent today involves mastering the ability to grow, learn and develop deeper than mere skills and drills. Not more but deeper as in integrating IQ and presence.
Considering all of our exciting potential shouldn’t we go deeper and grow beyond skill, goals and productivity?
