Brian Braudis’ 1-Minute Morning Memo: July 13, 2020 – Chaos and Suffering: on Disney+

Have you watched Hamilton on Disney+?

It’s a great mix of orthodox music and modern-day hip-hop styled music.

The story is another thing. It’s packed with drama because Hamilton was a flawed character. Now that makes for good writing, but as a coach, I’m always looking to improve.

As I watched, I repeated to myself, there’s a more intelligent way to deal with that!

Hamilton was arrogant, impulsive, flippant, and insensitive. He more often reacted wildly rather than employ intelligence.

He was clever but not intelligent.

Cleverness is short-sighted. People pursue their self-interest. Whatever is gained out of cleverness is short-lived and ultimately self-defeating.

Intelligence has a larger, long-term view in which all things are connected.

Cleverness divides, and intelligence connects.

Hamilton suffered privately and caused suffering with his family and public life.

As you watch Hamilton ask, is Hamilton master of his destiny or the servant to his circumstances?

The more ignorant you are, the more you suffer.
