I recently did a program on everyday leadership for a group in Voorhees and during the questions and answers section one of the senior leaders asked if introverts could be great leaders.
Specifically, they had taken the Myers Briggs Type Indicator assessment and each leader wanted to know if their “type” could become a great leader.
I shared with the group that the first thing to grasp is that the Myers Briggs Type Indicator tool was designed to help us understand and relate better to others.
A Tool Not a Limitation
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator tool is not a limitation or a finite box to hold us in.
Too many would-be leaders are held back by perceived limitations, impressions and self- doubt.
Begin to dig deeper and explore the way we thwart our achievement through perceived limitations that feed conflicts in emotion, desires, beliefs and thinking and it becomes crystal clear what we can do is amazing….what we end up doing is often disappointing.
I advised, do not allow a “construct” such as the Myers Briggs Type Indicator to act as a limitation or a gatekeeper for leadership greatness.
Never forget, great leadership comes from the most powerful and relevant leadership model in the universe—YOU.
YOU are the instrument!
